Entering Canada A U.S. citizen entering Canada needs a photo I.D. and your original birth certificate or a passport. Canada considers a D.U.I a criminal offense and can deny access. If you have a criminal record of any sort, make sure you contact customs in advance of your trip.

Non-Resident Licenses and Tags Non-Residents must present one of the following to obtain a license to hunt in Ontario:
. Ontario non-resident's hunting license issued to you after January 1, 1968, or . Hunting license issued to you by a competent authority in any jurisdiction as a resident of that jurisdiction* after January 1, 1968, or . Ontario Hunting License Examination Certificate issued to you after January 1, 1968, or . Ontario Hunting License Verification Certificate showing you were issued an Ontario license to hunt; or passed the Hunting License Exam, or . Certificate, issued to you after January 1, 1968, by a competent authority in any jurisdiction, giving you permission to purchase a resident's hunting license in that jurisdiction.* A hunting license from your home state from a previous year is accepted. It will not be returned to you.

Small Game Licenses and Tags This license authorizes a non-resident to hunt fox, game birds (except wild turkey), rabbits and hares in most areas, raccoon (except at night), wolf, coyote, and black, grey, and fox squirrels but not red squirrels. $82.50
Gun Permits You may use semi-automatic or self-loading firearms for hunting in Ontario, but not handguns or fully automatic firearms.
Effective January 1, 2001, federal firearms regulations require hunters who bring rifles or shotguns into Canada declare their firearms at their point of entry. A fee of $50.00 Canadian is required to complete this procedure; this confirmed declaration is valid for up to 60 days. Firearms Declaration Forms are available from Customs officers, Canadian Firearms Center info line at 1 - 800 - 731 - 4000.
You will need to get a gun permit to bring your weapon or weapons across the border. If you do not do this prior to entry, you will have to do it at the border. This process takes about 20 minutes and is done by the Canadian Customs as you enter Canada.
Big Game Export Permits In order to export big game across the border, you must buy a permit for $30.00 Canadian and these are available in Nestor Falls. Without the permit, you will not be able to bring any parts of your animal (cape, rack, meat) across the border.
